The Writer's Room, the largest guest suite at The Baker House
FOUR ROMANTIC EN SUITE ROOMS

Stay

The Baker House offers four unique en suite guest rooms, each with their own theme derived from the owner's interest in art and history.

The Gardener's Room at The Baker House

The Gardener's Room

Guests access the Gardener's Room through a private exterior entrance at the end of a charming formal garden exclusively for their own use. A large bluestone patio is furnished with tables and chairs for enjoying the sun and fragrant, pollinator-friendly perennial flowers.

The suite is our homage to the Arts and Crafts style — a Gustav Stickley oak cabinet filled with Fulper art pottery, a queen size mission bed, an antique armoire, and a writing table. A cozy reading alcove is lit by a circa-1900 stained glass window by Alfred Child, after a Pre-Raphaelite design by Walter Crane.

The en suite bath features a heated marble floor and glass-enclosed shower. This room can be combined with the neighboring Artist's Room to accommodate larger parties.

The Artist's Room

Located on the first floor, this charming room is decorated with original antique 19th century folk art and a queen size four-poster Sheraton style bed.

The spacious en suite bath boasts a 10 foot ceiling, a huge glass-enclosed shower for two, an antique porcelain pedestal sink, and a heated marble floor.

Filled with 18th and 19th century antiques — a Georgian mahogany writing table beneath a Victorian stained glass window, a mahogany armoire, a Chippendale armchair, and a grain-painted blanket box. Can be combined with the neighboring Gardener's Room for larger parties.

The Architect's Room

Situated on the second floor, the Architect's Room is decorated with 19th century albumen photographs of historic buildings, with a collection of architecture books on an antique library table.

This sunny room has a queen size iron bed and a large bathroom with both a tub and separate walk-in shower — the only room with both. The marble floor is heated.

Furnishings include an Edwardian mahogany armoire, an Aesthetic Movement Morris chair, and a Catalina tile-top table.

The Writer's Room

Measuring 15½ x 30 feet, the Writer's Room is our largest guest suite. Ten windows bathe the room in sunlight. A king size brass bed divides two seating areas — one with William Morris patterned wing chairs, the other with a down-filled sofa and club chair.

Guests enjoy exclusive use of a furnished outdoor balcony through a private exterior door. The bath features an enormous double shower and heated marble floor, plus a Tivoli radio and 54-inch flat screen television.

A curated selection of fiction and non-fiction fills a barrister bookcase and a 19th century revolving bookcase, alongside an Edwardian armoire, an 18th century cherry chest of drawers, and a Liberty & Co. Arts and Crafts hall stand.
